Auburndale graduate Jordan Zimmermann named National League Pitcher of the Month for July

WASHINGTON – Auburndale High School graduate Jordan Zimmermann was named the National League Pitcher of the Month for July after going 4-0 with a Major League-best 0.97 ERA for the first-place Washington Nationals.

Zimmermann allowed either zero or one earned runs in each of his six starts in July, while striking out 31 batters and walking just four.

Zimmermann earned a win on July 28 against the Milwaukee Brewers at Miller Park, his first career start at his home state’s ballpark. He gave up just one run in six innings.

The 26-year-old right-hander, who graduated from Auburndale High School in 2004 and played baseball at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, is 8-6 overall this season with a 2.28 ERA and 96 strikeouts in 134 1/3 innings. He is scheduled to pitch again Aug. 4 against Miami.
