STRATFORD – Stratford blew open a close game with 30 straight points in the second half and beat Auburndale 50-14 in a Marawood Conference football game Friday night at Tiger Stadium.
Stratford led 20-14 at halftime before scoring four unanswered touchdowns in the second half to win going away.
The Tigers piled up 445 yards rushing, including 203 from senior Travis Urlaub and another 105 from Greg Belter on just five carries. Urlaub scored four touchdowns, and Stratford got others from Belter, Eli Temanson and Kellen Bornbach in the rout.
Overall, Stratford outgained Auburndale 485-278.
Auburndale junior quarterback Blake Anderson completed 24 of 34 passes for 251 yards and toassed a pair of touchdown passes to Austin Hawkins, who had nine catches for 96 yards. Isaac Castellano had 10 catches for 113 yards, but the Apaches’ defense just couldn’t stop Stratford’s running game. The Tigers averaged more than 10 yards per carry in the game.
Stratford finishes the regular season with a 6-2 record and a 6-1 mark in the Marawood Conference, while Auburndale, after two straight losses, ends up 5-3 and 4-3 in the Marawood.
Both teams will learn its first-round opponent in the upcoming playoffs when the WIAA announces the field on Saturday afternoon. MarshfieldAreaSports.com will have updates when the brackets are posted.
