Hawkins, Castellano pace Auburndale boys basketball to win at Nekoosa in season-opener

NEKOOSA – Austin Hawkins scored 32 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, and point guard Isaac Castellano had a school-record 14 assists as the Auburndale boys basketball team opened its season with a 57-42 nonconference win over Nekoosa on Monday night at Nekoosa High School.

Hawkins made 16 of 24 shots from the field and had five offensive rebounds to lead the Apaches’ offense.

Blake Anderson added nine points and Tom Sabel scored eight for Auburndale.

The Apaches held a narrow 14-12 lead after the first quarter, then pulled away with a 15-9 advantage in the second quarter and a 13-7 run in the fourth.

Auburndale is off until Nov. 30 when it hosts Northland Lutheran in its home and Marawood Conference South opener.
