EDGAR – Stratford had four champions and two runner-up finishes as it took second at the 2013 Marawood Conference Wrestling Tournament on Saturday at Edgar High School.
Edgar had six champions and went on to win its eighth straight Marawood Tournament title. The Wildcats finished with 215 points, with Stratford second at 169.5. Auburndale was seventh with 102 points.
Phil Sersch (120 pounds), Alex Heiden (138), Kellen Bornbach (170) and Hunter Kauffman (220) all won individual titles for Stratford.
Sersch (29-7) beat Anthony Marten of Pittsville 3-1; Heiden (30-5) knocked off Isaac Weik of Chequamegon 10-4; Bornbach (25-7) beat Zach Scneeberger of Edgar 7-2; and Kauffman (29-3) dominated Wesley Dittman of Edgar 7-1 to win championships for the Tigers.
Anthony Gliniecki (28-5) dropped the 106-pound title match to Dylan Willemssen of Athens 5-2, and in the match of the night, Luke Nowak of Edgar edged Dondrick Tackes of Stratford 9-5 in the 195-pound championship. Nowak and Tackes were undefeated entering the match. Nowak moves to 32-0, while Tackes falls to 27-1.
Kyle Giebel (160) took third for the Tigers.
Auburndale didn’t have an individual champion, but had seven wrestlers finish in the top four.
Auburndale’s Wyatt Weiler (28-9) lost the 145-pound championship match to Connor Handrick of Edgar 8-3, and Trevin Oertel (25-4) was pinned by Edgar’s Matt Nowak in 56 seconds in the 182-pound title match.
Paul Willfahrt (132) finished third and Lane Schuld (120), Brandon Beggs (126), Justin Lewis (170) and Kaleb Bolder (220) all finished fourth for the Apaches.
