INDEPENDENCE, Mo. – Two Marshfield youth wrestlers competed at the Brute Nationals on April 11-14 in Missouri.

Fifth-grader Shane Westerhausen and sixth-grader Samuel Mitchell, both students at Nasonville Elementary School, were among the 1,200 wrestlers from 33 states that took part in the tournament.

Mitchell won the sixth-grade 138-pound division with aperfect 4-0 record. Mitchell won 4-0 and 9-2, earned a pin in 2:11, and won the championship match 9-0.

Westerhausen placed second in his weight class, finishing with a 3-2 record and earning All-American status.

Both boys train at World Gold Wrestling in Stevens Point and are coached by Dennis Hall, a former U.S. Olympic silver medalist. The two will compete in the Greco/Free Style State Tournament in Wisconsin Dells on May 4-5.
