Stratford’s Temanson, Spencer’s Zastrow, Auburndale’s Castellano among Division 3 medal winners at 2013 WIAA State Track and Field Championships

LA CROSSE – Stratford’s Eli Temanson won his second medal of the state meet Saturday after placing sixth in the 200 meters at the 2013 WIAA State Track and Field Championships at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.

Temanson finished in 23.06 seconds to finish sixth and earn his second Division 3 state medal. He was fourth the pole vault on Friday.

The Stratford girls also picked up a state medal Saturday, taking sixth in the 800 relay. Brooke Schultze, Abby Bender, Tianna Hughes and Emily Hauke finished in 1:48.30. Cuba City won the event in 1:46.45.

The Tigers team finished just behind Marshfield Columbus Catholic, which was fifth. The Dons team of Alexandra Hutchison, Rachel Roehl, Hannah Stratman and Kayla Selz finished the race in 1:48.26.

The same Columbus girls team ran in the 400 relay final as well on Saturday and just missed out on a medal, finishing seventh in 51.51 seconds, just 0.13 seconds behind Marathon. Onalaska Luther won the event in 50.38 seconds.

Spencer’s Rachel Zastrow, the only Rocket at the state meet, earned a silver medal by placing second in the Division 3 girls pole vault. Zastrow had a vault 10-6 to finish second behind Marlena Wagner of Lena/St. Thomas, who won with a vault of 11-3.

Auburndale’s lone boy at the state meet, junior Isaac Castellano, won a bronze medal as he took third in the D-3 800 meters. Castellano finished in 2:00.35. Nick Zander of Chippewa Falls McDonell won the 800 in 1:55.62.

Sylviann Momont, who won a fifth-place medal in the long jump on Friday, finished ninth in the triple jump on Saturday. Momont had a leap of 34-3½. Betsy Schreier of Cashton won the event with a jump of 36-4¼.

Stratford had three other relay teams compete on Saturday, none of which placed in the top six for a medal.

The boys 800 relay team of Tate Tichy, Phil Sersch, Temanson and Kellen Bornbach was seventh in 1:34.27; the girls 1,600 relay team of Schultze, Abby Bender, Hauke and Sadia Spaeth was ninth in 4:15.89; and the girls 3,200 relay team of Johnelle Miner, Nadia King, Schultze and Dani Bender finished seventh in 10:06.91.

In Division 2, Shorewood won the boys team title and East Troy was the girls state champion, while in Division 3, Fond du Lac St. Mary’s Springs edged Melrose-Mindoro by two points to win the boys team title and Edgar won the girls team championship.
