MARATHON – The Auburndale volleyball team needed a win to get back into the Marawood Conference South Division championship race, but came up just short.

Marathon knocked off Auburndale 19-25, 25-12, 25-14, 21-25, 15-11, to win the battle conference leaders on Tuesday at Marathon High School.

Marathon remains unbeaten at 5-0 in the conference, while Auburndale falls two games back with just one match remaining in the regular season.

Camille Swart had 12 kills and Shannon Yahnke added 10 for Auburndale. Setter Kendra Kundinger had 22 assists and 19 digs, and Hannah Castellano had a team-high 29 digs for the Apaches.

Auburndale is off until Oct. 10 when it hosts Athens for a nonconference match.
