Auburndale boys basketball cruises past Northland Lutheran

KRONENWETTER – Auburndale jumped out to a 22-10 lead after the first quarter and maintained its double-digit lead the rest of the way as it defeated Northland Lutheran 61-44 in a Marawood Conference South Division boys basketball game Tuesday at Northland Lutheran High School.

The win, combined with Wausau Newman Catholic’s upset of Marathon, puts Auburndale in sole possession of first place in the Marawood South at 7-0 and improves its overall record to 12-1. Marathon is now 6-1.

Northland Lutheran falls to 7-7 and 2-6 in the conference.

Blake Anderson had 21 points, nailing 5 of 10 shots from 3-point range, to lead the Auburndale offense. He also had six rebounds and six assists in the win.

Zach Staats added 14 points and four rebounds and Josh VanShoick had 11 points and six rebounds for the Apaches.

Auburndale plays at Edgar on Friday and hosts Marathon next Tuesday.
