OWEN – Owen-Withee held off a fourth-quarter run by Spencer to knock off the Rockets 51-50 in a battle of two of the top teams in the Cloverbelt Conference East Division boys basketball standings.
Owen-Withee led 42-35 after three quarters before Spencer cut it to one with a 15-9 run in the fourth quarter.
The Blackhawks maintain their tie for the Cloverbelt East lead with Neillsville, improving to 13-2 overall and 11-2 in the conference. Neillsville defeated Greenwood on Monday to also improve to 11-2.
Spencer is now 9-4 overall and 9-3 in the conference.
Albert Goerlitz poured in 30 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead Owen-Withee. Goerlitz was 11 of 20 from the field and 8 of 9 at the free throw line.
Jeremiah Cattanach and Joe Meyers each had 14 points to top Spencer.
The Rockets continue their busy week Tuesday at Loyal. Spencer also hosts Neillsville on Thursday and Marshfield Columbus Catholic on Saturday. Thursday’s and Saturday’s games will be broadcast on WOSQ-FM 92.3 and wdlbwosq.com.
