Marshfield, Auburndale earn top seeds in upcoming 2014 WIAA boys basketball playoffs

The WIAA announced its brackets on Sunday for 2014 WIAA Boys Basketball Tournament.

Tournament play begins with regional quarterfinals on Tuesday, Feb. 25. Regionals continue with semifinals on Feb. 28 and finals at March 1.

Sectionals are scheduled for March 6 and March 8. The survivors will play at the 2014 WIAA State Boys Basketball Tournament on March 13-15 at the Kohl Center in Madison.

Locally, Marshfield is a No. 1 seed in its half of the Sectional 1 bracket in Division 1.

The Tigers (13-6) will host No. 8 Superior (7-13) in a regional semifinal on Feb. 28 at 7 p.m. The winner plays in the regional final against the winner of No. 5 Eau Claire North at No. 4 D.C. Everest game.

In Division 4, Auburndale is the top seed, Spencer is No. 6 and Stratford is No. 10 in the Sectional 2 bracket.

Auburndale (19-1) is the No. 1 seed and received a first-round bye. The Apaches, champions of the Marawood Conference South Division and the defending sectional champ, will play the winner of No. 9 Menomoniee Indian (8-10) and No. 8 Bonduel (10-10) in a regional semifinal on Feb. 28 at Auburndale at 7 p.m.

Spencer (13-6) will host No. 11 Wabeno/Lena (9-11) in a regional quarterfinal on Feb. 25 at 7 p.m.

Stratford (7-10) will hit the road for a regional quarterfinal at No. 7 Crivitz (14-6) on Feb. 25 at 7 p.m.

Marshfield Columbus Catholic (16-4) is the No. 2 seed in the Division 5 Sectional 2 bracket and will host No. 7 Loyal (2-16) in a regional quarterfinal on Feb. 25 at 7 p.m.
