Auburndale boys basketball wins at Stratford, finishes Marawood South undefeated

STRATFORD – The Auburndale boys basketball team wrapped up its Marawood Conference South Division championship season with a perfect 14-0 record after downing Stratford 35-18 in a low-scoring affair Monday night at Stratford High School.

Auburndale led 20-12 at halftime and pushed the lead to 13 with a 7-2 run in the third quarter.

Both teams struggled shooting. Auburndale was just 13 of 46 and 3 of 23 from 3-point range. Stratford made just 8 of 35 shots from the field.

Auburndale improves to 20-1 overall and ends up perfect at 14-0 in the Marawood South. The conference title is the Apaches’ fourth in a row and third straight outright crown.

Stratford is 7-11 and finishes 7-7 in the conference.

Zach Staats had 11 points and Josh VanShoick grabbed 11 rebounds for the Apaches.

Jake Reif led Stratford with eight points but was just 3 of 15 shooting.

Stratford will play in a Marawood Conference North-South crossover game on Friday at an opponent to be announced. Auburndale will play in the first-place crossover game Saturday at Abbotsford against the Falcons, champions of the North Division.
