Augusta smothers Spencer girls basketball

AUGUSTA – Spencer shot just 19 percent and committed 29 turnovers and lost to Augusta for the second time in four days, falling 52-23 in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division girls basketball game Tuesday night at Augusta High School.

Augusta, who won at Spencer on Saturday, outscored the Rockets 28-10 in the first half and held them to just one point in the third quarter on its way to the victory.

Augusta is now 12-7 and 9-7 in the Cloverbelt East. Spencer drops to 5-14 and 3-13 in the conference.

Spencer was 7 of 36 from the field and made only 7 of 15 free throws as only six players scored and only one, Sydney Kind, scored more than three points. Kind led Spencer with nine points.

Dani Nelson scored 20 points and had 10 rebounds for the Beavers.

Spencer hosts undefeated Neillsville on Friday.
