Auburndale boys basketball beats Marathon again, wins WIAA Division 4 regional final

AUBURNDALE – The Auburndale boys basketball team won its second-straight regional title with a 42-31 victory over Marathon in a WIAA Division 4 regional final Saturday night at Auburndale High School.

Zach Staats scored 15 points, 11 in the second half, as the Apaches pulled away.

Auburndale (23-1) will play Stevens Point Pacelli (21-2) in a Division 4 sectional semifinal at 7 p.m. Thursday at D.C. Everest High School.

The Apaches led throughout, pull ahead 20-15 at the half and using a 10-6 third quarter to push their lead to nine.

Auburndale made 6 of 10 free throws in the fourth quarter to hold off the Raiders for the third time this season.

Blake Anderson added 10 points for Auburndale.

Isaac Barber led Marathon (17-7) with 13 points.
