MADISON – Stratford senior Dondrick Tackes won the 195-pound Division 3 title, edging Nick Klein of Random Lake 6-3 on Saturday night at the 2014 WIAA State Individual Wrestling Tournament at the Kohl Center in Madison.
Tackes had a pin and a major decision on Friday to move into the finals where he defeated Klein (40-11) and finishes his senior season with a near-perfect 35-1 record.
Tackes was 39-3 last year and placed fifth at 195 pounds at the state tournament.
Another Stratford senior, Alex Heiden, lost his quest for a championship, falling 5-2 to Kyle Mezera (46-2) of Lancaster in the Division 3 126-pound title match.
Heiden finishes his season with a 41-6 record.
