Spencer baseball thumps Loyal

SPENCER – Spencer scored eight runs in its final two at-bats to ease past Loyal 14-6 in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division baseball game Tuesday at Spencer High School.

Spencer led 6-3 after two innings before the Greyhounds tied the game with three runs in the fifth inning. Spencer (2-0, 1-0 Cloverbelt East) responded with three runs in the bottom of the fifth and five more in the sixth to grab the win.

Matt Ivacic struck out eight in 4 2/3 innings of relief to earn the win for the Rockets. He also added a double at the plate.

Bobby Pilz and Ben Grieser each went 3-for-4 for Spencer. Pilz added three stolen bases and the Rockets had 10 steals in all.

Spencer is scheduled to host Colby on Thursday and Gilman on Friday in a pair of Cloverbelt East games.
