Gilman sweeps doubleheader from Columbus Catholic baseball

GILMAN – Gilman cooled off the hot-swinging Marshfield Columbus Catholic baseball team with a doubleheader sweep of the Dons on Saturday at Gilman High School.

Gilman won 6-3 and 13-3 for its first two wins of the season and improve to 2-8 overall and in the Cloverbelt Conference East Division.

Columbus Catholic, which had won seven of its last eight games, are now 7-7 overall and in the conference.

Columbus led 2-0 after two innings in the first game of the twinbill before Gilman scored three runs in the third and three more in the fifth to pull away.

Kienan McIntee, Bryce DeSmet and Billy Young each had two hits for the Dons.

In Gmae 2, Gilman scored seven runs in the first two innings and never trailed, winning in six innings via the 10-run rule.

Tyler Fuerlinger went 3-for-3 in the loss for the Dons.

Columbus Catholic hosts Neillsville on Monday.
