Spencer baseball beats Greenwood in 8 innings

GREENWOOD – Spencer scored four runs in the top of the eighth inning and held off a Greenwood rally to beat the Indians 9-7 in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division baseball game Tuesday.

The Rockets improve to 14-4 overall and 13-3 in the Cloverbelt East, taking over second place in the conference. Greenwood is now 10-7 and 10-4 in the conference.

Mitch Susa earned the win with four innings in relief. He struck out five and walked one.

Spencer led 5-3 before Greenwood scored two runs in the sixth and forced extra innings. The Rockets scored four runs in the top of the eighth before Greenwood scored twice in the bottom of the inning but couldn’t get any more.

Hunter Hildebrandt hit a home run for Spencer.

The Rockets play at Columbus Catholic on Thursday and at Augusta on Friday to finish their Cloverbelt East schedule.
