Auburndale baseball loses ninth in a row

EDGAR – Edgar busted open a close game with a five-run fifth inning and three more runs in the sixth to beat Auburndale 13-4 in a Marawood Conference South Division baseball game Thursday.

The loss is Auburndale’s ninth straight and drops the Apaches to 2-12 overall and 1-8 in the Marawood South.

Edgar pushed ahead 5-0 with four runs in the second inning before Auburndale got its bats going a little. The Apaches scored twice in the third and added another in the fifth inning to cut it to 5-3 before Edgar put the game away with two big innings against Auburndale pitchers Rhys Wahleithner and Troy Kollross.

Dalton Lehman earned the win, allowing four runs and eight hits in six innings, and also was 3-for-3 at the plate for the Wildcats (3-9, 3-7 Marawood South). Jarrett Mueller, Reed Lehman and Dylan Smith all had two hits each for Edgar, which had 12 hits overall.

Wahleithner and Tony Altmann had two hits apiece for the Apaches.

Auburndale is scheduled to play at Marathon on Friday.
