Second-half surge lifts Columbus Catholic soccer past Wisconsin Valley Lutheran

MOSINEE – Marshfield Columbus Catholic remained undefeated with a resounding 8-1 victory over Wisconsin Valley Lutheran in a Mid-State Soccer Conference game Thursday.

Charles Payant scored the only goal in the first half to give the Dons a 1-0 lead before they exploded offensively in the second half.

Nick Malovrh and Calvin Brown each scored twice, and Payant, Tyler Fuerlinger and Farid Torbey added goals in the second half for the Dons, who improve to 8-0-2 overall and 5-0-2 in the MSSC.

Bailey Keffer had two saves for the Dons.

Columbus held a 33-4 advantage in shots (19-3 shots on goal) and had a 7-0 margin in corner kicks.

Columbus Catholic hosts Northland Lutheran on Monday at Griese Park.
