Stratford football blows past Chequamegon

STRATFORD – The Stratford football team are one step closer to its 24th-straight WIAA playoff appearance after ripping Chequamegon 42-8 in a Marawood Conference game Friday night at Tiger Stadium.

The Tigers are now 4-2 overall and 2-2 in the Marawood Conference, while Chequamegon drops to 2-4 and 2-3 in the conference.

Stratford must win two of its final three games to reach the WIAA playoffs. The Tigers are at Rib Lake next Friday, Oct. 2, against Rib Lake/Prentice, and at Auburndale on Oct. 9 before finishing the season Oct. 16 at home against Pittsville.

Kam Bornbach ran for 91 yards and three touchdowns, and the Tigers unleashed a successful passing attack as Sam Wenzel completed 10 of 14 passes for 265 yards and two touchdowns.

Wenzel hit Taylor Krall for a 29-yard score in the first quarter and added a 54-yard TD pass to Wyatt Ehrike in the second as the Tigers built a 42-0 halftime lead.
