Neillsville stops Auburndale boys basketball in WIAA Division 4 regional quarterfinal

AUBURNDALE – Ten days after Auburndale beat Neillsville in a nonconference game, the Warriors turned the tables and went on to a 55-49 victory in a WIAA Division 4 boys basketball regional quarterfinal on Tuesday at Auburndale High School.

Neillsville led 24-19 at halftime and held on by making 18 of 25 free throws in the second half.

Michael Dux had 14 of his team-high 17 points in the second half and Jake Kunze added 16 in the win for the Warriors.

Neillsville was 20 of 29 overall at the free throw line, while Auburndale only took 10 and made eight.

Luke Olson hit three 3-pointers in the second half and had 11 points to lead the Apaches, who finish their season with a 9-13 record. Caleb Weinfurter added 10 points, making 5 of 5 at the free throw line in the second half.

Neillsville (14-9) moves on to a regional semifinal at Edgar (19-3) on Friday. The winner will play in a regional final on Saturday against either Spencer (15-8) or Crivitz (18-4).
