Schmidt’s double-double lifts Stratford boys basketball past Coleman in WIAA Division 4 regional quarterfinal

STRATFORD – Stratford built a double-digit lead at halftime and held on to beat Coleman 57-46 in a WIAA Division 4 boys basketball regional quarterfinal Tuesday night at Stratford High School.

The Tigers led 27-15 at halftime and were able to keep their double-digit lead at the end despite making just 9 of 22 free throws.

Derrick Schmidt scored 17 points and pulled down 12 rebounds for Stratford. Cole Hoffman added 11 points, Ethan Nagel had 10, and Nick Stoflet had six points and eight assists for the Tigers.

Stratford (13-10) moves on to a WIAA Division 4 regional semifinal Friday at Marathon (19-3). Marathon defeated the Tigers twice during the regular season, including a 70-45 decision at Marathon on Feb. 12. The winner will play in a regional final on Saturday night against either Oconto (18-4) or Wabeno/Laona (20-2).
