WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Marshfield freshman Emma Haugen ended up with a score of 9.0 to finish in a tie for 22nd in the vault at the 2016 WIAA State Gymnastics Championship on Saturday afternoon at Lincoln High School.

Haugen had scores of 9.1, 9.0, and 8.9 in her three attempts on the vault. She scored 9.0 or higher at her finish three meets – the Great Northern Conference, Division 1 sectional and state meets.

“Emma had a great freshman season capped off with one of her best vaults of the season at state,” Marshfield coach Allie Dryer said. “I am looking forward to watching her gymnastics grow over the next three years, and anticipate more state showings for her every year.”

Haugen’s performance at state was a perfect way to cap a season for the Tigers that saw them improve throughout the year and consistently top previous individual and team scores.

“The team had a great season this year,” Dryer said. “We will greatly miss seniors Megan Smith and Traci Fuehrer next season. Megan has been a varsity all-around gymnast for the last four years for the Tigers, and her bars skills will be especially missed next year.

“However, the team is incredibly deep and motivated and I think our team score will continue to increase next season. We are looking forward to having Macey Smith back in the varsity all-around after injuries prevented her from competing to her potential this year. I also anticipate this year’s freshmen to come back next season with new skills and a lot of potential.”

Molly O’Boyle of Kenosha Bradford/Indian Hills/Tremper won the event with a score of 9.9.

Other individual winners in the Division 1 individual events were Hartland Arrowhead’s Taryn Sherman (9.45) in the balance beam, O’Boyle (9.517) in the floor exercise, and Brookfield East/Central’s Amanda Pennow (9.467) in the uneven bars. O’Boyle won the all-around title with a composite score of 38.167.

Franklin/Muskego/Oak Creek/Whitnall won the Division 1 team title on Friday night with a score of 149.3167, less than two points in front of second-place Kenosha Bradford/Indian Hills/Tremper. Whitefish Bay won the Division 2 team championship.
