Columbus Catholic baseball outslugs Granton

GRANTON – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic baseball team scored 10 runs in the fourth inning and survived a wild game, beating Granton 25-15 in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division game Thursday at Granton High School.

The Dons scored five runs in the top of the first inning before Granton retaliated with nine runs in the bottom of the frame.

The game was tied 13-13 after three innings before Columbus (3-4, 3-3 Cloverbelt East) pulled ahead with a 10-run fourth and ended it via the 10-run rule after five innings.

Charles Payant earned the win despite allowing 13 runs (nine earned) in three innings. He also went 4-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs.

Evan Nikolai was 4-for-5 with four RBIs, Tyler Fuerlinger was 3-for-6 with three RBIs, and Matthias Gouin hit a home run and also drove in four runs for the Dons.
