Marshfield Post 54 Senior Legion baseball crushes D.C. Everest

SCHOFIELD – The Marshfield Clinic Post 54 Senior American Legion baseball team cracked 14 hits and used 10 walks and five D.C. Everest errors to roll to a 17-3 victory in a Wisconsin Valley Legion League game Wednesday night.

Marshfield led 5-3 after five innings before scoring seven runs in the sixth and five more in the seventh to end the game via the 10-run rule.

Cole Hoffman was 3-for-5, Jared Klein had two hits, including the Blue Devils’ only extra basehit with a double, and drove in three, and seven different players scored at least two runs for Marshfield. Bobby Pilz walked four times, including three with the bases loaded, to finish with four RBIs in the win.

Mitch Susa earned the win on the mound, striking out four in six innings for Marshfield (15-4, 6-2 WVLL).

Marshfield will play four games in the Eau Claire Tournament this weekend at Carson Park. The Blue Devils open the tournament Friday with a game against Green Bay Southwest at 5 p.m. Marshfield will take on Winona (Minn.) at 3 p.m. and host Eau Claire at 8 p.m. on Saturday, and will close tournament play against defending state champion Madison Impact on Sunday at 11 a.m.
