Spencer volleyball opens season going 2-1 at home invite

SPENCER – The Spencer volleyball team opened its 2016 season by going 2-1 at its home Spencer Invitational on Tuesday at Spencer High School.

The Rockets earned a hard-fought 3-2 win over Stanley-Boyd, winning 25-22, 17-25, 23-25, 26-24, 15-6, and defeated Prentice 25-15, 25-14, 24-26, 25-15, before being swept by Chippewa Falls McDonell 25-19, 25-21, 25-22.

Liz Endreas had 35 kills, Jenna Schober added 28, and Johanna Ellefson had 20 kills and seven blocks for the Rockets.

Sadie Mercier had 60 assists and McKenzie Bainer added 52 from the setter position, Jenna Rogers had 70 digs and 10 service aces, and Montana Kleinschmidt had 10 blocks for Spencer.

“Very up and down all day,” Spencer coach Buff Heller said. “When we clean up our side of the net, we will be tough to play.”

McDonell won the team title with a 3-0 record. Stanley-Boyd ended up 1-2 and Prentice was 0-3.

Spencer will take part in the Early Bird Invitational at Marathon on Saturday.
