Rhinelander storms back to beat Marshfield boys hockey

RHINELANDER – Marshfield scored three early goals but couldn’t hold on, losing a nonconference boys hockey game at Rhinelander 5-3 on Tuesday night.

Ryan Krueger scored twice and Isaac Wellens added a goal in the opening 12 minutes for the Tigers, who led 3-1.

Rhinelander countered with a power play goal with 1:16 to go in the period, added another goal to tie the game in the second, and scored twice in the third to pull away.

Marshfield (2-4-1) was held two 19 shots on goal, missing on all nine attempts in the final period.

Tyler Kolasa, Freddy Wisner, and Cole Spaulding each had a goal and an assist for Rhinelander (2-3) in the win.

Marshfield hosts its annual two-day tournament this weekend at the Marshfield Youth Ice Arena. The Tigers play Chequamegon at 7:15 p.m. Friday night, then host Eau Claire Regis at 12:30 p.m. and Stevens Point Pacelli at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.
