Columbus Catholic girls basketball holds down Athens

MARSHFIELD – Marshfield Columbus Catholic held Athens to just 16 percent shooting from the field on its way to a 54-30 blowout of the Bluejays in a nonconference girls basketball game Tuesday night at Columbus Catholic High School.

Columbus (6-2) shot only 32 percent (21 of 65), but held Athens to only 8 of 51 shooting and forced 20 turnovers in the win.

Baylie Neider led the Dons with 14 points, which included three 3-pointers, and Kendra Baierl added 12 points and eight rebounds in the victory.

Kenadi Diedrich had 13 points and Gabriella Janke had 12 rebounds for Athens (2-4).

Columbus Catholic hosts Gilman in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division game on Thursday.
