MARSHFIELD – Perennial state-power River Falls defeated Marshfield by just 1.25 points in a nonconference gymnastics dual meet Thursday at Marshfield High School.
Sam Krueger won all four events, and thus the all-around, to lift River Falls to a 127.625-126.375 victory.
River Falls has made 15-straight WIAA state meets, placing second last year and winning the state title six times during that stretch, including as recently as 2013.
Emma Haugen was third in the vault (8.35) and uneven bars (7.65) to finish third in the all-around (31.25) for the Tigers.
Macey Smith was second in the vault (8.6) and took fourth in the all-around (31.175) for Marshfield.
Marshfield also had second-place finishers from Ciera Neufeld in the balance beam (8.075) and Brooke McGrath in the floor exercise (8.5).
“We are very excited to be competitive with teams who have consistently achieved success at the state meet,” Marshfield coach Allie Dryer said. “Additionally, we actually beat River Falls on vault and floor, but struggled on beam, which resulted in the loss.”
Marshfield will compete at the Tomah Invitational on Saturday.
