WAUSAU – The Marshfield wrestling team clinched at least a share of the Wisconsin Valley Conference regular-season title with a 77-6 rout of Wausau East on Thursday at Wausau East High School.

The Tigers won all but one match to improve to 5-0 in the WVC this season. Marshfield, which hasn’t won a conference championship since 1958, can finish off an undefeated title with a win over Wausau West next Thursday at home. The conference tournament is Feb. 4 at Stevens Point.

Shane Westerhausen (106 pounds), Brayden Richardson (126), Nolan Hertel (145), Payton Young (152), Conner Peterson (195), and A.J. Leonahrdt (285) all won by pin for Marshfield. Young and Leonhardt won in less than one minute.

Caden Pearce added a technical fall victory, 19-4, at 132 pounds, and the rest of the Tigers’ six wins were by forfeit.

“Overall, we continue to get better as a team,” Marshfield coach Jackson Hein said. “As the season progresses, we always need to look at each dual meet and tournament as opportunity for growth for each individual and as a team.”

Marshfield will compete at the Sparta Invitational on Saturday.
