SPARTA – Marshfield had eight wrestlers finish in the top four, including 132-pound champion Caden Pearce, and placed second at the Sparta Invitational on Saturday at Sparta High School.

Pearce (19-8) defeated Dylan Nielsen of Neillsville/Greenwood/Loyal 12-11 to capture the 132-pound title for the Tigers.

Anthony Kanable finished second at 138 for Marshfield, losing in the final to Jarrett Dolata of Mauston 10-2.

Caden Dennee (113) and Bentley Ostermann (160) each finished third, and Tanner Kanable (120), Nolan Hertel (145) and Sam Mitchell (170) all finished fourth for the Tigers.

“Caden has continued to get better throughout the season and I am proud to see him get on top of the podium,” Marshfield coach Jackson Hein said. “Sparta was a tough tournament for us, but as a team I know that each wrestler took this opportunity to get better.”

Marshfield can complete an undefeated conference championship season with a win over Wausau West at home on Thursday. The Tigers have clinched at least a share of the Wisconsin Valley Conference title, the program’s first since 1958.
