Marshfield boys basketball pulls ahead late to edge Wausau East

WAUSAU – Alec Hinson made two free throws with 21 seconds left and Marshfield was able to hold off Wausau East the rest of the way, winning 68-67 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference boys basketball game Saturday afternoon at Wausau East High School.

Marshfield trailed by as much as 12 and were down 37-29 at halftime before clawing back to take the lead late.

Marshfield won its second game in as many nights and is now 9-8 overall and 6-4 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference. East drops to 11-4 and 5-3 in the conference.

Hinson made 4 of 6 3-pointers and finished with a team-high 19 points for the Tigers. Ethan Posteluk also was 4 of 6 from 3-point range and added 14 points, Seth Anderson had 12 points, and Nick Stewart chipped in nine points and four rebounds for Marshfield.

The Tigers were 15 of 17 at the free throw line and 9 of 19 from 3-point range.

Marshfield hosts Eau Claire Memorial for a nonconference game Tuesday, and will see East again Friday night at home.
