Marshfield Post 54 Legion baseball loses late lead, falls at Wausau

WAUSAU – Wausau Post 10 used a five-run eighth inning to knock off Marshfield Post 54 9-7 in an American Legion baseball game Wednesday night at Athletic Park.

Marshfield held leads of 3-2 in the sixth inning and 6-4 in the eighth before Wausau pulled out the victory with the explosion in the bottom of the eighth.

Marshfield starter Jared Johnsrud cruised through the first seven innings allowing three runs before being knocked out in the eighth after not recording an out and allowing two runs. Reliever Jacob Neve allowed the final three runs, just one of which was earned, and suffered the loss.

Ryan Krueger went 4-for-5 with a double and two RBIs, and Andy Goettl added two hits and scored twice for Marshfield, which falls to 7-7 overall and 5-4 in the Wisconsin Valley Legion League.

Marshfield was hurt by six errors in the field, which led to three unearned runs.

Marshfield plays at Wisconsin Rapids on Thursday night at 7 p.m. at Witter Field.
