WISCONSIN RAPIDS – After a back-and-forth first 20 minutes, Wisconsin Rapids scored four unanswered goals to pull away and defeat Marshfield 6-4 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference boys hockey game Thursday at South Wood County Ice Arena.

Isaac Wellens scored just 2:30 into the game for Marshfield (2-5, 0-2 Wisconsin Valley Conference), and after Wisconsin Rapids grabbed a 2-1 lead, Ryan Krueger tied the game with a power-play goal late in the first period for the Tigers.

Adam Maki gave Marshfield a 3-2 lead 2:37 into the second period with a goal off an assist from Krueger, but then it was all Rapids.

Carson Crotteau and Isaac Gilbert both scored in the second period to help Wisconsin Rapids (3-1, 1-0 WVC) regain the lead, and Colton Flammini completed the hat trick with two goals in a 34-second span in the third period to put the Raiders up 6-3.

Wellens added another goal at the 7:55 mark of the third period for the Tigers, but they couldn’t get any closer.

A.J. Trierweiler had 28 saves in goal for Marshfield.

The Tigers host Waupaca next Tuesday in a nonconference game.
