Columbus Catholic boys basketball whips Loyal, clinches third-straight Cloverbelt East title

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic boys basketball team clinched its third-straight Cloverbelt Conference East Division championship with a 75-54 victory over Loyal on Friday night at Columbus Catholic High School.

The Dons led 35-33 at halftime before busting the game open in the second half and downing Loyal for the second time in a week.

Noah Taylor had a season-high 20 points, Jarred Mandel added 15 points, and Nick Malovrh had 14 for Columbus Catholic, which improves 18-2 overall and 15-0 in the Cloverbelt East after winning its ninth-straight game.

Columbus will wrap up its conference schedule Monday at Neillsville and will play its final regular-season game Feb. 24 in the first-place game of the Cloverbelt Conference Crossovers against Osseo-Fairchild at Osseo-Fairchild.
