Stratford boys basketball falls at Marathon

MARATHON – Marathon completed a season sweep of Stratford, topping the Tigers 61-56 in a Marawood Conference South Division boys basketball game on Friday night at Marathon High School.

The loss ends Stratford’s seven-game winning streak and drops them to 17-4 overall and 11-4 in the Marawood South.

Marathon remains in title contention in the conference at 12-3 (18-3) overall. Marathon plays at Wisconsin Rapids Assumption and Stratford hosts first-place Auburndale for the final Marawood South games of the season on Thursday.

Benjamin Barten scored 27 points, making 11 of 14 shots from the field, to lead Stratford.

The Tigers shot a sizzling 59 percent from the field (22 of 37), but couldn’t overcome an 8-for-16 performance at the free throw line and 17 turnovers.
