STEVNES POINT – The Auburndale girls placed fifth and Spencer was close behind in sixth at the Rosholt Indoor Track & Field Invitational on Friday at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
The Spencer boys also had a strong showing, taking eighth place, with Auburndale 16th. The Columbus Catholic girls finished in 18th place in the team standings, and the Columbus boys failed to score.
New London won the boys team title and Wittenberg-Birnamwood took first in the girls team standings.
Hannah Zastrow won the girls high jump for Spencer with a leap of 5 feet. Her teammate, Sabrina Vircks, was sixth with a jump of 4-10.
The Auburndale girls had three runner-up finishes and four other top-six finishes.
Kali Karl was second in the 800 meters in 2:32.20 for the Apaches. Karl, Peyton Hamus, Maddie Krings and Katelyn Trowbridge finished second in the 800 relay in 1:55.57, and Hamus, Isabelle Hilber, Karl and Errika Zenner took second in the 1,600 relay in 4:28.35.
Taylor Stanton took third in the 800 in 2:40.04 and Zenner was sixth in 2:43.72; Anna Kollross finished third in the pole vault (9-0), and Amanda Momont finished fifth in the long jump (15-2.25) for Auburndale.
Kaily Northup took third in the long jump for Spencer in 15-7.25.
The Spencer boys had six top-eight finishes. Aaron Pankratz was second in the 400 (51.72) and eighth in the 60 (7.80), Collin Nieman finished fifth in the 800 (2:11.71), Mason Barth was fourth in the 60 hurdles (9.28) and sixth in the high jump (5-6), and the 1,600 relay team was fourth in 3:49.31.
Columbus Catholic had top-10 finishes from Jessica Jakopin in the girls shot put (third, 35-6.5) and Jeremiah Giles in the boys triple jump (ninth, 36-1.75).
Earning top-10 finishes for the Auburndale boys were Paul Kollross (eighth, 9-6) and Trent Lau (10th, 8-6) in the pole vault.
