Stratford softball 1-2 in nonconference action

The Stratford softball team went 1-2 over the weekend, losing a nonconference game to Phillips 6-3 on Friday, then splitting a pair at the GT Slamfest in Thorp on Saturday.

The Tigers lost to Grantsburg 7-5 and beat Chequamegon 4-3 at the tournament.

Against Phillips, the Loggers scored three times in the bottom of the first inning to take the lad and held on from there. Stratford scored both of its runs in the fifth inning.

Kiana Weiler struck out five and took the loss for the Tigers. She also had two hits at the plate.

In the first game at the tournament, Grantsburg pulled ahead with a three-run fourth inning.

Each team finished with 10 hits. Weiler had two RBIs and struck out six on the mound.

Stratford scored the winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning to beat Chequamegon.

Sydney Boeger had three hits, Weiler had two hits, and picked up the victory with a complete-game six-hitter.

Stratford (10-6) plays at Marathon on Monday and hosts Wisconsin Rapids Assumption on Tuesday.
