COLBY – The Spencer softball team picked up another big win on Tuesday as it knocked off Colby 5-2 in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division game at Colby High School.

With the win, the Rockets are now 11-5, overall and 10-1 in the Cloverbelt East. Spencer needs to win one of its final three games to clinch a share of the conference title. With two wins, the Rockets would win their fourth-straight outright Cloverbelt East championship.

Tiffany Meinders picked up the victory on the mound, striking out nine in a complete-game effort.

Leadoff hitter Sadie Mercier went 2-for-4 and scored twice, and Lexi Baehr had a double and two RBIs for the Rockets.

“Our defense is really finding its groove,” Spencer coach Lashel Canfield said. “Kayla (Hopperdietzel) really had a great day at first base, and after waiting and wanting a ball hit to her, Shaelee (Neitzel) came up with big defense to end the game in the seventh.”

Spencer hosts Marshfield Columbus Catholic for a doubleheader on Thursday and wraps up its conference and regular-season schedule at home against Gilman on Friday.
