MINOCQUA – Marshfield overcame a three-goal deficit and slipped past Lakeland with a 4-3 overtime win in a nonconference boys hockey game Tuesday at the Lakeland Hawks Ice Arena.

Max Toijala had a hat trick by the midway point of the second period to give Lakeland (13-3-1) a quick 3-0 lead.

Marshfield got its offense going just in the nick of time. Noah Peterson, Ian Haugen and Evan Weister had goals in the final 6½ minutes, Weister’s coming with 2:53 to go in regulation, to force overtime.

Weister scored with 6:51 left into overtime to give the Tigers the win.

A.J. Trierweiler had 54 saves in goal for Marshfield, which improves to 10-7-1. Trierweiler had 21 saves in the third period and overtime to help allow the comeback.

“This was a great gut check for this team,” Marshfield coach Eric Bowman said. “A.J. played well and guided us through some tough situations. The team responded well to some adjustments, and made plays when we needed to.”
