Two late goals push D.C. Everest past Marshfield boys hockey

MARSHFIELD – D.C. Everest scored a pair of goals in the final eight minutes to surge past Marshfield for a 3-1 win in a Wisconsin Valley Conference boys hockey game Thursday at the Marshfield Area Ice Arena.

Payton Smith scored on a power-play goal with 2:13 to go in the first period to give Marshfield a 1-0 lead.

D.C. Everest tied the game in the second on a goal by Edie Zynda.

The score remained tied until Grant Oertel scored with 8:17 remaining in the game to give the Evergreens the lead.

Everest added an insurance goal by Colby Schmitt with 1:26 to go.

A.J. Trierweiler had 23 saves in goal for Marshfield, which falls to 10-8-1 overall and 3-4 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference.

Ethan Hunt saved 24 shots for D.C. Everest (10-7-2, 4-2-1 WVC).

Marshfield hosts Black River Falls for a nonconference game Friday at 7 p.m.
