Neillsville boys basketball wins at Columbus Catholic, earns share of Cloverbelt East title

MARSHFIELD – The Neillsville boys basketball team wrapped up a share of the Cloverbelt Conference East Division title with a 68-55 win over Marshfield Columbus Catholic in the conference finale for both teams on Monday night at Columbus Catholic High School.

Neillsville pulled out to a 38-22 lead at halftime and held on from there. The Warriors are now 18-3 overall and finish 15-1 in the Cloverbelt East, tying Spencer for the conference title. Columbus Catholic is now 9-12 and ends up 8-8 and tied for fourth in the conference standings.

Monte Diestler had 19 points, Josiah Katcher added 15, Drew Brown scored 14, and Braden Trunkel had 13 in a balanced scoring attack for Neillsville.

Cole Noreen scored 23 points for the Dons.

Columbus Catholic will play in the fourth-place game of the Cloverbelt Conference crossovers at home on Thursday against Chippewa Falls McDonell.

Neillsville will take on Altoona in the first-place game on Saturday at Altoona. Spencer and Thorp will play in the second-place game at 1 p.m., with the Neillsville-Altoona contest to follow at approximately 2:30 p.m. Both games will be live-streamed at zaleskisports.com/live-sports.
