Stevens Point tops Marshfield to wrap up Wisconsin Valley Conference boys hockey title

MARSHFIELD – Stevens Point busted open a tight game with five unanswered goals and defeated Marshfield 6-1 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference boys hockey game Tuesday at the Marshfield Ice Arena, wrapping up the conference title.

Payton Smith scored late in the first period for Marshfield to tie the game at 1-1.

Cael Bolton scored in the final minute of the first period to give Stevens Point the lead and the Panthers never surrendered it.

Stevens Point scored twice in the second period and added two more in the third, while shutting down Marshfield.

Lucca Weinkauf and Brady Dillingham each scored twice for Stevens Point (13-4, 10-0 Wisconsin Valley Conference).

Marshfield (7-9, 5-4 WVC) will finish its conference schedule at Wisconsin Rapids on Thursday.
