STRATFORD – Athens scored seven runs in the first three innings and held on to defeat Stratford 9-4 in a nonconference softball game Friday at Hilgemann Field.

Siarra Hart had a two-run double, Sydney Coker knocked in a run with a sacrifice fly and Jazelle Hartwig stole home to give Athens a quick 4-0 in the top of the first inning.

Trailing 7-0, Stratford scored three times in the fourth on RBI singles by Megan Wiese and Bailey Linzmeier, and an error.

Athens pushed two more runs over in the top of the sixth to effectively put the game away.

Hart earned the win, striking out seven in a complete-game effort for the Bluejays (7-5).

Wiese had two of Stratford’s five hits and Linzmeier had two RBIs.

Both teams will play nonconference games Monday. Athens will host Cadott and Stratford (3-8) will travel to Cadott.
