Stevens Point, Pechinski wrap up Wisconsin Valley Conference boys golf titles at final meet

STEVENS POINT – Logan Pechinski shot a 75 to win the meet and put the final touches on the individual championship at the seventh and final leg of the Wisconsin Valley Conference Boys Golf Tournament on Monday at Stevens Point Country Club.

Pechinski edged Wausau East’s Carter Cygan by two strokes to capture meet medalist honors and finish off the individual WVC championship. He won five of the seven meets to run away with the title, with Wausau West’s Lucca Tonelli second, Marshfield’s Jaxon Bulgrin third, D.C. Everest’s Andy Ziemer fourth and Stevens Point teammate Ethan Thomas fifth. The top five earned first-team all-Wisconsin Valley Conference honors.

Thomas finished seventh with an 83 and Nathan Earnest tie for eighth with an 84 to help Stevens Point to the team title as well with a score of 335, just one shot better than Wausau West. The narrow win on Monday helped Point to the overall team conference title.

D.C. Everest finished third with a 348, Wisconsin Rapids was fourth with a 354, Marshfield fifth with a 356, Merrill sixth with a 370 and Wausau East seventh with a 378.

Bulgrin led Marshfield with an 82, tying for fourth at the meet with Ziemer and Wausau West’s Justin Yang. Tonelli was third with an 81.

Ian Haugen had a 90, Caden Machtan and Ethan Schnitzler both had 92s, and Seth Peterson shot a 100 to round out Marshfield’s scoring.

Wisconsin Rapids will compete at a WIAA Division 1 regional at La Crosse Country Club, while the other six Valley teams will be at the D-1 regional at Wausau Country Club, on Tuesday, June 1.
