RHINELANDER – Marshfield scored two second-half goals, including the game-winner in the final minute, to edge Rhinelander 2-1 in a nonconference girls soccer game Monday at Rhinelander High School.

Rhinelander led 1-0 at halftime on a penalty kick by Ella Schiek in the 22nd minute.

Kate Schilling scored eight minutes into the second half and Courtney Meyer hit the game winner with 39 seconds remaining to push Marshfield to the victory.

Presley Franklin earned her first varsity point with an assist on Meyer’s goal.

“It was a hard-earned victory as both teams played hard and really it was a very even match,” Marshfield coach Steve Lindner said. “Rhinelander won the first half on 50/50 balls but the Tigers decided they can also win 50/50 balls and that was the difference as we won more loose balls to secure the victory.”

Marshfield (6-4) hosts Stevens Point in a Wisconsin Valley Conference game Thursday at 7 p.m. at Heiting Community Stadium. The game will be live at zaleskisports.com.
