Marshfield boys soccer drops home match with first-place Stevens Point

MARSHFIELD – Stevens Point dominated play from start to finish and defeated Marshfield 6-1 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference boys soccer game Tuesday at Heiting Community Stadium.

The Panthers scored on a Marshfield own goal just 5:09 into the contest and never let up, added three more goals before halftime, and two more in the second half to continue its run in the Wisconsin Valley Conference this season, improving to 6-0 (8-2-2 overall).

Owen Williams had a goal at the 12:08 mark, Ben Omernik scored four minutes later, and Lucas Skare tacked on another score for Stevens Point three minutes after that, to give the Panthers a 4-0 lead midway through the first half.

Williams and Deacon Yang added goals in the second half to push Point’s lead to 6-0 before Marshfield got a late goal from John Truel with 2:07 remaining.

Stevens Point outshot Marshfield 28-4 in the win.

Marshfield (2-5-1, 1-4-1 WVC) plays at Wisconsin Rapids on Thursday. Stevens Point is off until Saturday when it hosts Eau Claire Memorial for a nonconference game.
