MARSHFIELD – The Columbus Catholic soccer team got an early wake-up call from Stevens Point Pacelli and quickly turned around its fortunes.

After Pacelli’s Max Grabiec scored at the 11:27 mark, Columbus Catholic scored six-straight goals and went on to a 9-3 win in a Central Wisconsin Conference match Thursday at Griese Park.

Grant Olson, Alex Edwards and Charlie Moore had goals within a span of 40 seconds to put the Dons in control.

Olson added another goal 18 seconds before halftime to give the Dons a 4-0 lead.

Olson and Edwards each scored again in the opening seven minutes of the second half before Pacelli answered with goals by Jacob Hasler and Matt Tippel.

Columbus rebounded with three goals to close out the game as Olson netted his fourth, and Sammy Neville and Brianna Duda tacked on scores for the Dons.

Columbus Catholic, which has already wrapped up the Central Wisconsin Conference title, is now 11-1-1 overall and 9-0 in conference play. Pacelli falls to 3-4-2 overall and in the CWC.

Columbus Catholic will play at Wausau Newman Catholic on Monday and at Chippewa Falls McDonell/Eau Claire Regis on Tuesday to finish its regular-season schedule. Pacelli’s next and final game will be at home against Gresham/Bowler on Oct. 14.
