Assumption tops Stratford in girls basketball season opener

STRATFORD – Wisconsin Rapids Assumption held Stratford to 11 points in the first half and cruised to a 52-32 win in the season and Marawood Conference South Division openers for both teams on Thursday at Stratford High School.

Assumption ran out to a 20-11 lead by halftime and extended it by outscoring the Tigers by 11 in the second half.

Addi Vollert scored 12 points and Anna Schooley added eight in a balanced scoring attack for the Royals that saw 10 different players score in the win.

Tessa Berg led Stratford with eight points.

Both teams return to action Tuesday for Marawood South contests. Stratford will play at Auburndale and Assumption will host Wausau Newman Catholic.
