Columbus Catholic grad Kendra Baierl helps lift UW-Eau Claire volleyball to NCAA Division III national title

ST. LOUIS – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women’s volleyball team, which included Marshfield Columbus Catholic graduate Kendra Baierl, swept Calvin College (Mich.) 3-0 on Saturday to win the NCAA Division III Women’s Volleyball Championship match at Washington University.

The Blugolds won 25-22, 25-23, 25-21, to earn the title, the first in school history.

Baierl had five of her 10 kills in the second set. She also added two block assists in the victory.

Eau Claire swept Tufts University (Mass.) in the Elite 8 on Thursday 25-23, 25-15, 27-25. Baierl had seven kills and four blocks to Eau Claire.

In the Final Four, the Blugolds came back from a 2-1 deficit to defeat top seed Juniata College (Pa.), 20-25, 30-28, 20-25, 25-19, 15-13. Baierl had 14 kills and seven blocks for Eau Claire.

Eau Claire, champions of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, finishes the season with a 35-3 record.
